Clinical waste collection and disposal

Clinical Waste

Prolinq Ltd offer a comprehensive collection and disposal service for all hazardous waste streams. We work with a range of customers including:

  • Funeral Homes
  • Dental Practices
  • Tattoo & Beauty Shops
  • Hospitals & GP Surgeries
  • Nursing & Care Homes

What makes it hazardous?

  • Infectious Risks: Waste containing bacteria, viruses, or other pathogens, like used dressings, swabs, bedpans, and anything in contact with bodily fluids.
  • Chemical Hazards: Waste from medical treatments, disinfectants, or lab work, including some pharmaceuticals.
  • Pharmaceuticals: Expired or unused medicines, especially cytotoxic (cancer-treating) drugs, which are highly hazardous.
  • Sharps: Needles, syringes, scalpels, and other sharp instruments that can cause injury and transmit infection.

Why it's managed separately

  • Infection Control: Prevents spread of diseases to healthcare workers and the public.
  • Environmental Protection: Stops harmful substances from contaminating soil, water, and air.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Governed by strict laws requiring special containers, tracking, and authorized disposal sites.

Tyre collection, recycling and shredding

Tyre Recycling

Prolinq Ltd offer a comprehensive collection and disposal service for all waste tyres. We work with producers of waste tyres including:

  • Garages
  • Tyre Workshops
  • Waste Transfer Stations
  • Local Councils

Why Tyres Are Regulated:

  • Chemical Leaching: Tyres release heavy metals (lead, zinc) and petrochemicals that can contaminate soil, groundwater, and surface water.
  • Fire Hazard: They are highly flammable, and tyre fires produce dense, toxic smoke with carcinogens (like PAHs, dioxins) and particulate matter, harming human health and the environment.
  • Pest & Disease Risk: Discarded tires collect water, creating ideal breeding sites for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of vector-borne diseases like encephalitis.
  • Slow Degradation: Like plastics, tyres break down extremely slowly, making them a persistent pollutant.

Mattress collection and recycling

Mattress Recycling

Prolinq Ltd offer a comprehensive collection and Recycling service for Mattresses. We work with producers of waste mattresses including:

  • Landlords
  • Hotels
  • Mattress Manufacturers
  • Waste Transfer Stations
  • Local Councils

Why they're tricky to dispose of:

  • Chemicals: Foam, adhesives, and treatments can leach harmful chemicals as they break down, releasing greenhouse gases like methane.
  • Bulky Waste: They take up significant landfill space, so many general waste centres don't accept them.
  • POPs Legislation (UK): The Environment Act 2021 means mattresses can fall under Persistent Organic Pollutants rules, requiring strict management.

POPS waste collection and disposal

POPS Waste

Prolinq Ltd offer a comprehensive collection and disposal service for all POPS waste. We work with producers of POPS waste including:

  • Landlords
  • Hotels
  • Furniture Manufacturers
  • Waste Transfer Stations
  • Local Councils

What are POPs?

  • Persistent Chemicals: They stay in the environment for a very long time.
  • Bioaccumulative: They build up in the food chain.
  • Toxic: Harmful to humans and wildlife.

Common items containing POPs (especially in the UK)

  • Upholstered Seating: Sofas, armchairs, futons, office chairs, beanbags, and cushions (especially older ones made before bans).

WEEE collection and recycling

WEEE Recycling

Prolinq Ltd offer a comprehensive collection and recycling service for all WEE waste . We work with producers of WEEE waste including:

  • Offices
  • Local Business
  • WEEE Manufacturers
  • Waste Transfer Stations
  • Local Councils

Why WEEE is Hazardous

  • Toxic Components: WEEE contains substances like lead in screens, mercury in lamps, ozone-depleting refrigerants in fridges, and hazardous chemicals in printed circuit boards.
  • Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs): Many electronics contain POPs that don't break down and can harm health and ecosystems.
  • Batteries: Onboard batteries (like Ni-Cd) are a significant hazardous component.

Examples of Hazardous WEEE

  • Computers & Monitors
  • Fridges & Freezers
  • Fluorescent Tubes & Lamps
  • Batteries (especially Ni-Cd, Li-ion)
  • Mobile Phones & IT Equipment

Metal recycling and collection

Metal Recycling

Prolinq Ltd offer a comprehensive collection and recycling service for all metal waste . We work with producers of Metal waste including:

  • Construction
  • Manufacturing
  • Demolition
  • Waste Transfer Stations
  • Local Councils

When Metals Are Hazardous Waste

  • E-Waste & Batteries: Electronics (computers, phones) and batteries contain heavy metals (lead, mercury, cadmium) that make them hazardous.
  • Contaminated Scrap: Metal contaminated with oil (from filters), solvents, paints, or other chemicals becomes hazardous.
  • Specific Metals: Mercury (in fluorescent bulbs), beryllium, and other heavy metals are inherently toxic.
  • Aerosols: Full or partially full aerosol cans are hazardous due to propellants and contents.

When Metals Might Not Be (But Still Need Care)

  • Clean Scrap: Uncontaminated metal offcuts from manufacturing can sometimes be considered a by-product or non-hazardous waste.
  • Recyclable Metals: Items like clean tins, cans, foil, and bottle tops are usually recycled in standard recycling bins.
